MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE is a dark comedy about Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a U.S. Army Afghanistan veteran who is at odds with her family, on a journey to find her deceased best friend, Zoe (Natalie Morales). Despite the persistence of her VA counselor (Morgan Freeman), the love of her strict mother (Gloria Reuben), and an unexpected love interest, Merit’s cozy yet dysfunctional friendship with Zoe protects the duo from the world. . That is, until Merit’s grandfather (Ed Harris), who lived in the family’s ancestral lake house, starts to go wrong and needs the one thing he refuses to give up… help. It’s essentially a buddy movie about complicated friendships, a fractured family, and the complicated ways we process grief.
