A host of other characters enter the kaleidoscopic narrative as Knightley and Whishaw are drawn deeper and deeper into an increasingly unfathomable plot as a mountain of bodies pile up around them, sometimes in their arms, while Whishaw still has time to rekindle an old romance. Sharply directed, with authentic A-list performances, it somehow fell short of its early promise for me, with an over-the-top plot that relied too much on coincidences, gun violence and quirky, offbeat characters. While everything is resolved in the end, I felt it was somewhere between James Bond-type fantasy and Le Carre-type realism, and the escapism unfortunately won out in the end. I was wrong, he killed her. The same goes for Ben Whishaw, who also looks like he weighs 100 kilograms. Both were completely believable in their roles. I had so much fun watching it, and I binged all 6 episodes over the weekend. Once I started watching, I was hooked. I’m glad they’re planning a second season, because one isn’t enough. I want to see more of these characters and the world they’ve created here. "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
